VCOS is Changing: Update

As we mentioned in our previous post, Vespa Club of Seattle is changing. We’ve had some discussions on what we want the VCOS to be. Here are some of the changes that we’ve decided to make:

  1. We’ve essentially decided to throw out the bylaws, so instead of specific officers with specific roles, we’ll have a committee handle the administrative aspects. Committee might not be the right word. It’s more like whoever wants to help out or add their thoughts to the discussion is welcome. No commitment. Just come and add to the discussion. We plan to meet once a month to talk about what we want to do.
  2. The VCOS Members Only Facebook group is now set to “public”. No more trying to monitor who is a member or not. Anyone can “like”/”join” it. (Come like our page, too, to stay up on announcements!)
  3. No more membership dues. The Club is open to anyone. If you want to buy a patch, leg shield banner, etc. Great! We’ll be posting the Club merchandise in the future on the VCOS website. For now, we’re only able to sell Club stuff in person, nominally at the rides/meeting ups.
  4. No more boring members’ meeting. Instead, we are going to have a ride/meet up each month. Watch for events on the VCOS Facebook page and the website.
  5. It costs around $420 a year to maintain the website, domains, and PO box. We plan to use the merchandise sales and seek sponsors to cover the costs.

Feel free to come join our next meeting to help steer the club! Check out the calendar or Facebook page for dates, or speak up in the Facebook group.

VCOS is Changing

As our ways of communicating and associating has evolved, so has the VCOS decided it was time to evolve. We have decided to restructure, and to relook at how we function and provide fun and activities for the members. This may take some time to resolve all the details, but we feel it will be a better, more fun club. An initial change is that we will no longer have the structured VCOS Members meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at Café Racer. Instead, for now, we invite everyone to the weekly Thursday evening happy hours (5-8 PM) at Seattle Tavern & Pool Room in Georgetown (5811 Airport Way S, Seattle) set up by Brandon of Los Gatos Gordos SC.

Amerivespa 2017

Amerivespa 2017 is coming to Seattle July 6-9!

Vespa Club of America (VCOA) is pleased to announce that the site of Amerivespa 2017 scooter rally will be in Seattle, WA on July 6th – 9th, 2017.  Jointly hosted by the Vespa Club of Seattle (VCOS), Amerivespa Seattle will be four days of scootering fun for scooter enthusiasts and the general public. Whether you call us: Jet City, Tech City, or Coffee City there is no denying that Seattle is one  one of the nation’s premier tourist destinations.  The moderate weather allows for riding year round, and a unique geographic location makes for a recipe that equals an ideal location to celebrate and promote motor scootering in the USA.

Amerivespa is the largest annual motor scooter rally in the United States and typically brings over 600800 scooter enthusiasts from all over the USA, Europe, Canada, Asia, Mexico, and Australia. With its additional draw as a central tourist destination, Seattle could conceivably bring over 1,000 attendees. VCOA is a nonprofit organization whose members are dedicated to riding motor scooters, and is a society for people who share the passion of vintage and modern scooters.  Approximately 70% of the scooters originally sold in the United States were Vespas.  However, many members also own Lambretta, Cushman, Heinkel, Zundapp, and other makes. VCOA supports the use of the scooter as an energy efficient vehicle and economical mode of transportation that conserves fuel, reduces traffic congestion, and treads lightly on the overworked road system.  While its origins are rooted on the iconic Vespa scooter, the VCOA welcomes all scooter enthusiasts regardless of what they ride.
